Cubs
The boys started the New Year with a party and later the results of the Christmas Puzzle Quiz were announced,
won by Peter Lee of Sutton and runner up was Kathy Fisher of Lower Kingswood.
Cubs have been learning about simple first aid, country code, and personal safety, in preparation for badges.
As usual, a full programme has been planned, but without additional regular help from an assistant for Akela,
the Cub pack will have to close around Easter time.
If you know of anyone who can help each week on Thursdays, 6.30pm-8.00pm, please contact
Anne Wawrzynczak on 812185 or Akela on 771547 to find out more. A parent rota is in operation
now, but this is not as good as we would like in the long term, to continue the Pack's success during
the many years it has been running. The annual swimming gala is coming up in March
and the team will be selected soon. Please help if you can.
If Cubs folds, it will be a great loss for the village, and will take its toll on the Scout Group in turn.
Scouts
Scouts are going from strength to strength with new activities being tried out, such as skateboarding at
Skaterham indoor centre. It was so successful, we will be going again. Scouts are joining with Guides for an
interesting talk on drug awareness and later they plan to do some indoor climbing at Salfords centre.
They will also learn about DIY, mechanics and machinery and other topics for badges over the next few months
and begin to prepare for summer camps, the main one being Scoutabout (every 3 years) at Ardingly
showground in June, attended by the whole of the South East and District.
Look out for our annual Race Night on Sat. 2 March at 7.30 for 7.45 - first race at 8pm. Tickets from Anne Wawrzynczak 812185 or Janet O'Hagan 833430.

Guides
Last term and this term the Guides have taken part in a wide range of activities. One of the activities that we are currently doing is our 'Chocolate go for it'. We are making chocolate
cakes and sweets. We have to do 4 activities from this Go For It to gain the challenge card. We also went on a very important trip to the climbing wall at Salfords. It was absolutely
great and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Another trip during half term is to the Guide Heritage Centre at the Guide Headquarters in London.
Last term also brought us to a sad note when Linda Goldfinch left and Shaz moved down to become the Assistant Guider as she could not attend every week due to her new work commitments.
SO WE ARE URGENTLY looking for new leaders. Please can YOU come and help us carry on with our exciting programme and adventurous activities? If you can help please phone Gill
Utting (832654) or Fluff Gregory (833202).
PLEASE COME AND HELP, WE DO NEED YOU.
This term three new guides have joined Rosie, Asher and April who I hope will have fun at Guides and two more come from Brownies after Easter.
