Walton Heath Golf Course

Having walked over Walton Heath Golf Course for many years, I was concerned to see them removing serveral silver birches from an especially attractive wooded area. A week later I returned to find the entire copse gone - at least 20 trees had disappeared and what had once been a beautiful, picturesque scene was nothing more than a sea of mud.

What is even more worrying is that when I approached Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, who lease this common land to the Golf Course, they said they were intending to return all the land to heathland. They had already removed the entire wood either side of the bridle path two years ago leaving a cold and barren look to a most attractive area.

If no more action is taken they will continue until all the trees are gone!

I hope that others will feel as concerned as I do and write or 'phone the Council and protest.

Mr Harrison is in charge of Planning Control at the Council and can be contacted on 01737-276177 or by writing to him at the Town Hall, Castlefield Road, Reigate, Surrey, RH2 0SH.

Alternatively you can 'phone Cllr. Gates on 01737-356653 or contact the Surrey Mirror.
